Hello to All!  I know I'm late, but I've been up to my neck in primer, paint, turkeys, and computer parts!  Be careful with that Kilz primer, it can kill ya'!  And let's hope we hope don't hear any modem sounds from the turkey on Thanksgiving!  :)  Let's get to it!

I know I promised to give you a review of the new voice program, ViaVoice by IBM, but I haven't had the opportunity to work with it lately.  We'll put that one on hold.  I still think it's better than some of the voice programs out there, but I'm sure that the newest voice programs for 2001 will be even better. ViaVoice is moderately priced and that always factors into the equation for me.

HOW TO GET RID OF THE LEFTOVERS

I thought I'd address a few requests at this writing, and pass along some helpful email and computer tips.

A reader writes:

1. "How do I get rid of all the extra addresses and comments leftover from previous emailings on top of the original email message that I want to forward?" There are a few ways to address this issue:

a) You can "cut" the extra addresses by placing your mouse cursor at the beginning of the leftovers, hold down your left mouse button, and drag it to the end of the addresses; this will highlight the area you
wish to "cut".   Then you can look at the toolbar at the top of your email program, or right click and choose "cut". This works very well in Outlook Express.

b) If you cannot do this, you may also, click the mouse at the start of the leftovers, and simply hold down the "delete key" on your keyboard until all the leftovers are gone.

c) One more remedy is to highlight (click and drag mouse cursor) on the message itself and right-click or on the toolbar choose "cut".  Now, go to a "new message" in the email program, and right-click (or toolbar) in the body of the email message and choose "paste".  This will move your email message only to the new letter, ready for you to send the fresh and clean email message without all the clutter.

Your email buddies will really appreciate it.

A reader writes:

2. "Some people send me messages that have been attached many times to many email letters, and I must open an attachment several times to get to the real message.  This is very nerve-racking and tedious, and I ignore many of these messages.  Could you tell people how to remedy this?"

Sure I can.  When someone sends you one of these type emails, open the attachments to the end, and when you have read it, click on "forward" right at that message.  You don't have to go all the way back to the person's name that sent it to you that way, just click on forward and address it to your pals.  This is much more efficient, and you come off as a very organized emailer.  :)

Another reader writes:

3. "My mouse doesn't seem to want to go where I want it to go, do I need a new mouse?"  Well, you might, but before you go buy one, you should try cleaning it first.

a) Shut down your computer.  This is important because you are dealing with a part that is plugged into the tower, which is plugged in to the wall outlet.  Could be a shock :) to you to discover this later.

b) On the underneath side of the mouse is a "ball".  This gets all dirty and gunky (how gunky could depend if you eat at your computer, or its never been cleaned since you purchased it).  You will see a circle and arrows that show which direction to turn to tighten or loosen to take the ball out of the mouse.  You may use a cotton ball, or lint free cloth with alcohol to clean the ball.

c) Replace the ball and tighten the plastic cover on the bottom of the mouse.  You will probably notice a great deal of difference in the functionality and accuracy of your mouse cursor.  If you don't, bite the bullet, and go buy a new mouse.  They are fairly inexpensive.  Just take the old one with you and you will know what type you need: serial or ps-2.

I could do an entire newsletter on mice, and one day I will. Until then, this will get you by, and I'll pass on some more information later.

One more thing:  I'd like to share some holiday drink recipes with you for some great pre-prepared bulk mixes.  They are so good, and great for gifts as well as you own enjoyment.  You can click on the hyperlink to my website and get all three recipes:
